Film Tour Nearing End

Sunday, May 31: The nepa-laya film tour of the documentary Frames of War by Prem BK and Kesang Tseten is returning to Kathmandu next week after being seen by nearly 80,000 people.
The documentary has been screened in packed halls in 26 districts so far, and will travel on to Lamjung, Gorkha, Dolakha and Sindhupalchok before a week-long screening in Kathmandu at the Russian Cultural Centre beginning June 14.
"The response to the film has far surpassed our expectations both in terms of numbers, and also in articulating the deep desire on the part of the people for peace and stability," said Kunda Dixit, who is accompanying the tour and on whose photo book A People War, the documentary is based.
From Ilam to Kanchanpur, from Butwal to Beni people young and old, men and women, school and college students have lined up for hours to see the film. In Sandhikharka, one of six shows was only for women, and there were few dry eyes in the audience. In Pokhara, students from the St Francis School offered to become penpals and help a girl in the film still traumatised by the killing of her father during the war.
The two-and-half-month Frames of War Film Tour has evoked strong memories of the conflict years since almost every family was affected one way or other. "The main message from the film is that although the war may have ended, the country is not at peace yet," said Dixit, "and the war goes on for the families of the killed or disappeared whom the country seems to have forgotten."
The tour will culminate in Kathmandu with the final week of screening of the film 14-22 June. In addition, nepa-laya wll also organise the national launch of the book, Never Again, a collection of testimonies by people from all over Nepal about their personal experiences during the war and their desire for peace, justice and development.
