Should Brad Pitt be Mayor of New Orleans?

According to local television sources and other Louisiana news outlets, present Mayor of New Orleans Ray Nagin would like to see Brad Pitt Mayor of New Orleans. Others feel the same way because that would make Angelina Jolie first lady of the city.
Conjectures abound as people consider the possibility of Brad Pitt becoming Mayor of New Orleans. A number of gossip blogs are spreading the rumor around, but there may be something to it, considering the local news station out of Alexandria broadcasting to Natchitoches, Louisiana reports the same thing. Apparently some folks in New Orleans want Brad Pitt as Mayor, and the present Mayor Ray Nagin, according to some local television channel, has chimed in to support the idea, but that may be tongue-in-cheek.
It turns out some New Orleans folks are hopeful about Brad Pitt being on the ballot for Mayor for the election taking place in April 2010. Pitt hasn’t expressed any desire to be mayor, and no one knows if most residents would support him. But the fact is, as letters come pouring in to the Nola.com site, more and more people are gathering to discuss it.
This all started when a Tulane University professor listed 13 reasons why Brad Pitt should be Mayor of New Orleans. These 13 reasons are now listed on the well-known Storyville website. Likely many of these reasons are given with tongue in cheek, but include the fact Brad Pitt, given his fine looking frame, looks like he has the shoulders to carry the burdens of the city and the stomach for the job. New Orleans people also love Brad Pitt. Then there is that extra special reason, what Louisiana folks call lagniappe, which is Angelina Jolie as First Lady of New Orleans. Of course, Pitt could bring more movie executives to town for filming. New Orleans has at times been a Hollywood favorite for films. These seem to be interesting ideas for those who think Pitt could be mayor and for those who believe he certainly couldn’t do worse than Ray Nagin, as is related by local papers. For those who want to check out the rest of the list, they make interesting reading on Storyville.
Chris Rose, on Nola.com, the premier online newspaper for New Orleans, writes “Give the people what they want: Brad Pitt for Mayor of New Orleans.” After all, the writer points out, other actors have been politicians Clint Eastwood, Ronald Reagan, Fred Thompson, and Arnold Schwarzeneggar.
Right now “the movement” is hardly that, Rose declares. He says, “It\'s actually a couple of guys who had a conversation, printed up some T-shirts and unintentionally set the Butterfly Effect into motion.”
Well the butterfly is gaining momentum as a number of sites have picked up the idea and are spreading it around, just as television news has also been reporting. So here’s to more of the butterfly and the potential for Brad Pitt. If one good-looking hunk like Arnold can do it and be a successful politician, why not the star, Brad Pitt, who lit up the screen in Thelma and Louise and flexed his muscles in the movie Troy? At least that’s what those handful of folks sending out butterflies are doing, likely hoping one lands on Pitt’s neck with a whisper, “Do you want to be mayor?”
But here’s the catch. What about all the gossip regarding Jennifer Aniston and the hints of Pitt and Aniston getting back together that gossip magazines discuss? Well, again given the number of politicians with extra marital relationships, like Senator John Ensign and Governor Mark Sanford, and the colorful escapades noted by Senator David Vitter, a Louisiana home-town boy, all keeping their jobs so far, perhaps people believe anything is possible with the notion of Brad Pitt as Mayor of New Orleans, whether Aniston figures into the equation or not.
